The Schaubühne Berlin theater troupe originally planned to stage Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen's 19th-century drama "An Enemy of the People" in Nanjing on September 13, 2018. However, the performance was abruptly canceled due to criticisms of the authoritarian Chinese government by some audience members during a performance in Beijing the previous week.
