Generally, people integrate their perceptions, consciousness, and memories to form their sense of "self." However, in certain states, we may lose this cohesive subjective awareness. This state is known as dissociation, where there is a disconnection between a person's sensory experiences, thoughts, self-awareness, or personal history. In a dissociative state, individuals may experience a sense of unreality and lose connection with time, place, and identity, leading to disruptions in memory and sensory experiences.
